Lucid Dreaming at home

We are sleep and dream researchers at the Donders Institute in Nijmegen and are trying to understand how (lucid) dreaming works in the brain and to develop a method to reliably induce lucid dreaming. You can help us make that a reality!

In a lucid dream, the dreamer is aware that they are dreaming and in many cases can control the dream. In a lucid dream, anything is possible! A kind of fully-immersive VR. Lucid dreaming is used to treat nightmare disorders, and used by many people for creative problem solving, introspection and trauma healing.

So far there is very little neuroscientific research on this fascinating phenomenon. A major hurdle to understanding lucid dreaming scientifically is that it is a rather rare phenomenon. Sleep research in the lab is quite expensive and takes a lot of effort. In this study we're trying to change this in two ways: By bringing lucid dreaming research to the home environment, and by creating a method by which lucid dreams can reliably be induced.

Obviously we can't do this without you and hope that you are as excited as we are about this groundbreaking research.
